I have recently attended quite a few budget meetings of the City of Memphis. It is a spectacle that does not warm the heart of the overburdened Memphis taxpayer. Here are several examples that you should find interesting.
My last posting gave details of the Memphis City School health care plans and their cost. Now I want to give details for the City of Memphis and Shelby County.
|Annual cost to employee||Annual cost to employer||Total annual cost|
|Active employee city of Memphis family premier plan||$3644.88||$8504.72||$12149.60|
|Active employee Shelby county Cigna OAP (PPO)family||$3972||$9252||$13,224|
|Retired city of Memphis employee, family plan any age, premier plan||$3644.88||$8504.72||$12149.60|
|Retired Shelby county employee over 65, medicare supplement plan||$1363.20||$3180.96||$4544.16|
Shelby county over the years has gotten most of their retirees on Medicare and are furnishing only a supplemental medicare plan which is costing a lot less than the city and accounts for much of the difference in their unfunded OPEB liability compared to the City of Memphis.
